Paddock Boots

Paddock boots have laces from above the ankle down to just above the toes.  The heel is low and well-defined.

Tall Riding Boots

There are several styles of tall boots. Any designed for horseback riding will be acceptable.

Equestrian Sport Boots

Sport boots come up well-above the ankle, they are closed with laces, are usually padded inside, and have a well-defined heel.

OXFORD-type Shoe

An oxford shoe will have this type of heel, and laces are used to secure the shoe on to the foot.

English Jodhpur Boots

Jodhpur boots are a slip-on style; some jodhpur boots have zippers.

DO NOT BUY A LOAFER-STYLE SHOE FOR RIDING.

Loafers are low, step-in shoes with tops that resemble moccasins.  Usually made of leather, they have broad flat heels and a smooth sole. Loafers have no shoelaces.
