Transportation to & from Red Pine

Girls may travel to and from camp by automobile, airplane or on chaperoned chartered buses from Chicago, Milwaukee, or Madison.

Bus arrival: The bus service is provided by Lamers at a fee of $100 each way. Buses are air-conditioned with bathrooms. Lunch and drinks will be provided en route.

Airport arrival: Campers will be picked up at the Rhinelander, WI airport for a fee of $25. Please make airline reservations as soon as possible for opening and closing days and be sure to ask about unaccompanied minor policies for all campers under age 15. Flights should arrive by 11 a.m. Opening Day as campers are involved in activities after lunch. Departures can be scheduled anytime after 9am on Closing Day. If your daughter is flying to camp, she will need a carry-on bag with a change of clothes, sneakers, a bathing suit and a towel. If she is traveling with a cell phone or other electronics, upon arrival at camp they will be taken by her counselor and placed in the Director’s office and will be returned at the end of the camp session.

Automobile arrival: Parents who drive their daughters to Red Pine should plan to arrive at camp between 9 am and 12 pm on Opening Day. Please park in the fields by the tennis courts. There you will be greeted by a member of the staff and taken to the office for check-in and to meet Executive Director, Connie Scholfield. All girls must then check-in with the nurses in the Infirmary. Parents and siblings are invited to join all campers for a buffet style lunch at the Lodge. Your daughter’s luggage will be taken to her assigned cabin and her bunk will be made by one of her counselors while you enjoy lunch together. We do ask that after lunch, you say cheerful good-byes and leave by 2 pm. The girls will be involved in activities that afternoon.

More information on travel procedures will follow in your Spring Information Packet.

Luggage Shipment

Buses are able to take one large duffle bag per camper, so please arrange for all other luggage to be shipped. We suggest shipping your daughter's linens, so that her bed can be made up before her arrival. In the Chicago area, North Shore Movers 800-244-6560 can be contacted by May 1st to pick up luggage and deliver it to Red Pine prior to your daughter's arrival. They can also be contacted to deliver luggage home. They will charge $85 for two pieces of luggage and a sleeping bag. Outside of the Chicago area, luggage may be shipped via Fed Ex Ground to Red Pine Camp for Girls 8531 Red Pine Road Woodruff, WI 54568. Clearly mark your daughter's name on the outside of the trunk. Please make arrangements for return shipping at the same time you send off the trunks.

Visiting Weekend

Red Pine Camp holds a Visiting Weekend in the middle of each four-week session. Parents may visit camp on June 28th-29th for the 1st session and on July 26th-27th for the 2nd session. You are invited to join us beginning at 2:00pm on Saturday to watch your daughter participate in her afternoon activities followed by dinner at 6 pm. Parents may also choose to stay after dinner for an evening presentation but must be prepared to leave camp by 8:30 pm. On Sunday, parents may come to camp between 10 am. and 3 pm. and are invited to spend time with your daughter and stay for lunch. All meals will be served buffet style and seating will be informal. Parents are asked to leave camp on Sunday by 3 pm so that we can prepare for the next two weeks of busy activities. Please note that campers are required to remain at camp throughout this weekend.

"Outside World" Policies

  • Letters from home are a special part of every camper’s day. For parents’ convenience, a one-way email service is available. Emails received by 11 am will be delivered after lunch the same day. Campers cannot email out of camp. Campers are not allowed to use the phones and parents should not call in. Exceptions are made in case of emergencies or at the Executive Director’s discretion.
  • Sending packages of any kind is heavily discouraged. They are cumbersome to carry in from the Post Office and the packing material adds greatly to our waste disposal.
  • Food is not allowed in the cabins and packages containing food will not be given to campers. Other campers may have food allergies and food also invites insects and other undesirable creatures.
  • Cell phones, video devices, iPods, and other electronics are not permitted. These items will be taken and kept in a safe in the Executive Director’s office until the day the campers leave.
  • Parents and alumnae are not allowed to visit except on the designated Visiting Weekend.
  • Girls are not allowed off campgrounds except for an emergency or camp outing.

Only campers, alumnae, and staff are allowed to attend the final Candlelight Service on the last evening of camp. This is a unique Red Pine tradition—a very special final ceremony to reflect on the summer’s experiences and to celebrate friendships. Parents and visitors are not included.
